Karanvir Bhupal, grew up in greater West London in a place called Hayes, Middlesex. The normal lifestyle of attending primary school and secondary school was his day to day until he gained a passion for drama and acting. This ultimately led to opening him up and bringing about a sense of clarity. Although he chose to study food technology, not enough students had applied to do the subject and so by chance, he was given drama instead. Studying at Cranford Community College (location that the series shot the school scenes at) up until upper sixth form, his hunger for performance grew fierce and developed a hard work ethic with a humble nature.
The character I'm playing, Prem Mehta - actually isn't that different from me, we both share a very personal bond and it can be quite surreal attaching yourself to a character, something which some may deem as unreal and a type of fantasy but there was no attaching myself to this character, the character had always been attached to me. To be able to mirror what has happened in my personal life and to take certain issues and to show them onscreen with a character like Prem gives me such a satisfying feeling, the reality of all the problems being faced are in the open. Without saying too much, I feel that Prem's character has had a phenomenal affect on my life and will continue to do so. The respect I have gained for my peers and the character is something which will stay with me forever and I hope that PREMature can change lives and help others just like it has done for me and many of my fellow cast mates. The way I see it, even if one person attaches them self to a story or a character or a scene, we've succeeded.
